The Atlantic 4-4-2 locomotive was introduced to England by H.A.Ivatt on the Great Northern Railway with No. 990 in May 1898 a few months before the first inside – cylinder 4-4-2 on the Lancashire & Yorkshire Railway. After building a further 10 in 1900, Ivatt switched over to a prototype with a much larger boiler and firebox.
Although a further 10 small boilered Atlantics were built in 1903, construction was confined to its big brother of which 94 were built between 1902 -10.
Our model is being made in Korea in collaboration with Dream Art Models. Our aim is to build models as miniature replicas of the prototype using original GA’s from the NRM, with photographs and information from various sources. Attention to detail is our primary intention and every effort will be made to get things correct. The model will be designed to negotiate a minimum of 5’6” curve. For the large boiler, the sound decoder will fit in the boiler with the speaker, the small boiler decoder will have to fit in the tender with plug in leads.
